Boston Architectural Firm to Listen to Community Views on Location of Proposed
Scarsdale
Community Center
Scarsdale,
NY, June 17, 2008. The Scarsdale Community Center (SCC) announces a public meeting to be held at 8:00 PM on Monday, June 23 in the Scott Room of the Scarsdale Public Library. The purpose of the meeting is to introduce the Boston-based firm of Bargmann Hendrie & Archetype, Inc. and to provide the community with an opportunity to express its views on the three sites under consideration for location of a community center.
After evaluating a number of qualified firms, the SCC selected Bargmann Hendrie & Archetype, Inc. (BH+A) to assist in site selection and schematic design for a community recreation center including aquatic and fitness facilities. BH+A is a 40-person architectural firm specializing in community recreation facilities. BH+A was chosen for its experience in pool design, in building public consensus, in “green” design, and its expertise in financial analysis including preparation of revenue and expense projections so a community knows both the initial and long term costs of a facility. Within
New York
State, BH+A has designed projects in
New York City,
Orangetown,
Malta and
Monroe.
The three sites under consideration are the Outdoor Pool, Harwood Park between the Library and Dean Field and the Freightway lot in the Village Center. A second public meeting is planned for July when BH+A will present its analysis of these three sites and seek community response which will result in narrowing the selection to two sites.
The SCC has established a time-table with BH+A that includes four public meetings, meetings with Village Trustees, community-based research and gathering of information by engineering, landscape and project cost consultants to be completed by October.
At a third public meeting in early September, BH+A will present architectural schematics, floor plans and detailed cost estimates for the two sites. Following public review, conversations with the SCC and Scarsdale Village Board of Trustees, one final site will be selected. After necessary plan revisions, BH+A will make its final public presentation in late September or early October.
As previously announced, the SCC also has engaged the consulting firm of Ballard*King located in Denver to conduct a comprehensive planning and operations survey to provide information necessary for the effective and efficient design and operation of the proposed facility.
