WHAT IS THE SCC?
· The SCC is a multi-purpose facility to be built on Village owned property. The SCC will include an 8-lane pool, a family pool and a smaller warm water recreational and therapeutic pool. Also included is a fitness center with weight and aerobic equipment and multipurpose space for all types of programs from teen and kids’ classes to senior events. The annual membership fees and revenue from classes and special events will cover operating expenses.
· The SCC is a "community" facility, designed to appeal to the physical, intellectual, social and creative interests of a broad range of
Scarsdale residents, providing a place to swim and exercise year round at a moderate fee, as well as a venue for educational and cultural activities.
· The SCC is designed to bring residents together in a manner that no other place in
Scarsdale currently does. The diversification of the program offerings should appeal to all members of the community -- making the SCC the "indoor town center" of
Scarsdale.
WHO IS THE SCC?
· Currently, the SCC is comprised of a 35 member SCC Board and approximately 1200 paid Founding Member families representing over 4000
Scarsdale residents.
· The paid Founding Membership represents approximately 20% of the families living in
Scarsdale. The membership includes individuals and families both young and senior. It is a veritable cross section of our entire community.
WHAT IS THE STATUS OF THE SCC?
· The SCC has engaged the architecture firm of Bargmann Hendrie + Archetype and the consulting firm of Ballard*King and Associates in an effort to refine and update its proposal. The SCC, along with its architect and consultant, will present a possible site plan, preliminary building schematics, revised financial projections and a revised financing plan to the Village Board in November.
· The SCC is working with the architect, the consultant, the Village and the community at large to determine the most feasible site for the community center. Four sites have been considered including the Outdoor Pool, the Leaf Transfer site,
Harwood
Park (between the Library and Dean Field) and the Freightway lot in the
Village
Center. The SCC held four public meetings with the architect (6/23, 7/21, 9/10 and 10/7) providing a forum for residents to hear the latest information and to offer their input.
HOW CAN YOU HELP MAKE THE SCC A REALITY?
The SCC needs to show the Village Board that there is active, vocal support for the community center so there can be no doubt that this is a project the community wants. For a list of actions you can take, click here: Join Friends, or email us at friends@scarsdalecommunitycenter.org/
