You may recall that at the last meeting with the Village on July 11, we discussed site selection issues and SCC Board member Bart Hamlin presented a well-received
illustrated plan for siting the community center within the footprint of the current outdoor pool locker rooms, replacing the existing facility.

On Tuesday night, September 11, we continued our discussions with the Village Board of Trustees. The Trustees listened to a preliminary conceptual plan presented by Village Manager Al Gatta and staff for a new facility at the outdoor pool site, with an indoor pool and limited fitness equipment, next to a refurbished locker room building. Although the square footage of the facility discussed was significantly below the estimate we have recommended as being necessary for a community center, we believe that, as a first phase of a project, the discussions hold the potential of enabling us to get to an acceptable solution.

SCC founding members have subscribed to a community center and your up-front membership payment was based on such a model. SCC Board members Neil Bicknell, Larry Bell, Howard Blitman, Bart Hamlin and Meredith Lonner reiterated this point to the Village Trustees at the September 11 meeting and emphasized that a community center is more likely to reduce financial risk because it will generate needed revenue from multi-user groups. Once again, they encouraged the trustees to engage the services of professional financial and site planners who can assist the Village in formulating a thoughtful and cost- effective community center plan.

The key point, however, is that Mayor Noreen Fisher and all the trustees have demonstrated an interest in establishing some form of indoor pool/community center and the tone of the dialogue is constructive. Our discussions with the Village Board are continuing and we shall keep you abreast of developments as they happen.
